Sitka Land and Sea Combo

Escape the packed school bus tour offered by some cruise lines on this fun and adventurous tour by van. You will be picked up at the cruise ship tender pier. After driving down the town's main street, you will take in the sweeping view of downtown Sitka from the O'Connell Bridge as you explore Japonski (the Russian word for Japanese) Island's rich history and wildlife. Although wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, you will most likely see eagles, sea lions, otters, and various other animals during the tour.

Your tour continues with a scenic drive to Silver Bay, where you will learn of its rich history and be amazed by the scenery and photo opportunities.

Next, we're on to the "Fortress of the Bear." Here, you'll have the opportunity to witness the distinctive brown bear in a naturalized setting, while gaining a thorough education on the species itself. The three-quarter acre habitat is complete with covered viewing areas, as well as an adjacent public farm.

The last stop on the two hour land portion of the program is the Sitka National Historical Park, also known as Totem Park. You will stand on a bridge over Indian River and learn about the salmon and their life cycle, then take a walk in the amazing old growth rain forest. Hear about the native culture as you view the totem art and scenery.

You will have approximately 10 minutes between the land portion and the cruise portion to stretch.

Your tour package also includes a great adventure on Sitka's beautiful waters. Your boat for this amazing tour is a safe, Coast Guard inspected 26-foot Glacier Bay Catamaran. This twin engine vessel was constructed specifically for a smooth ride in most any seas getting you to the action fast! She has a warm, comfortable cabin with large windows to maximize wildlife viewing from indoors, as well as a spacious deck for the open-air experience.

The captain of this vessel is a USCG licensed licensed captain with many years of experience studying the habits of the amazing animals in our area, giving each guest a once in a lifetime marine adventure. He also has a underwater hydrophone on board so you can hear the whales sing!

This two-hour tour will take a maximum of six guests at a time to some of the most breath taking scenery and animal habitat in the world. Weather and sea conditions that day will determine the itinerary for that day. Certainly the main focus will be on whales, but the captain will also try to tweak the tour based on your personal preferences and what you want to see most. Whether it is whales feasting on herring, otters lounging in the kelp, barking sea lions, or possibly even a bear on the beach, this is the tour for you!

Please note: A minimum of 2 guests are required to book this tour. The maximum is 6 guests per departure so book early to avoid disappointment. Depending on the day and your ships schedule, you may do the cruise portion before the land portion. .
