After tendering ashore, you will meet your guide on the pier before boarding your private tender to the port of Athinios. In Athinios, you will board your transportation and begin the climb out of the caldera. As you climb, you will have the chance to see the multi-colored layers of lava produced in different phases of the volcano's activity. Once reaching the top of the caldera, you will set out across the terraced landscape to the northern end of the island and the artistic community of Oia. The town offers magnificent views of the caldera and other smaller Cycladic isles. With its cobble stone streets, beautiful old mansions and houses perched on the cliff, Oia is a perfect example of the world-famous Cycladic architecture. Use your free time to wander the many artists' galleries or snap pictures of the magnificent scenery.
Then you will cross the terraced island while driving to the Akrotiri area where the Aeolos taverna is located. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a chilled glass of wine or ouzo, the aniseed-flavored Greek liquor. This will be followed by a cooking demonstration and the opportunity for you to sample local Santorinian specialties as well as popular Greek dishes.
After lunch, you will be driven back to Fira where you will be given an overview of how to navigate the town, before you set off on your own to explore the twisting pedestrian walkways of Fira in search of art, jewelry or a relaxing coffee and some people watching. When you are ready to return to your ship, use your included cable car ticket to return to the tender pier in Fira.
Please note: The tour duration does not include the time required to tender ashore from your ship. This can be a time consuming activity so please allow yourself plenty of time to reach shoreside. All tours end in Fira and include a return cable car ticket to the tender pier in Fira to be used at your convenience.
