Visit Edinburgh’s Georgian ‘New Town’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – a triumph of grandiose town planning; beautiful architecture and fascinating history.
After a short panoramic drive that begins to explain the master plan of the Neoclassical New Town, arrive in St Andrew’s Square and see Dundas House and the Melville Monument which dominate the Square. Looking down the length of George Street you will see the dome of West Register House in the sister Square of Charlotte Square. Walk towards Charlotte Square, pausing at the Church of St Andrew and St George with its unusual oval nave and taking in Thistle Street; the partner to Rose street, both built as housing for the servants and trades people who served the New Town gentry. Arriving in Charlotte Square, visit the National Trust for Scotland’s elegant Georgian House, which was home to several wealthy families. The house is beautifully interpreted and you will see what life was like in the late 18th century.
Rejoin your transportation for the short transfer to a local venue to enjoy a traditional high tea with dainty sandwiches and delicious cakes, served with tea or coffee. After the perfect end to a day in Edinburgh, you will be transferred back to the pier.
