Private Bears Whales and Glaciers
Private Bears Whales and Glaciers
Your Private Bears, Whales and Glaciers Tour starts with an approximately 2.5 hour whale watching and nature cruise, on board a new custom-built, eco-tour landing craft. This vessel is designed for your comfort with fold-in "safari" windows, a hydrophone, silent cabin heaters, a full stand-up head, and two viewing decks.
Whale Watching - You will cruise from Juneau to the Tlingit village of Hoonah, located on Chichagof Island. Some of the possible wildlife encounters include: humpback whales, stellar sea lions, Dall's porpoises, harbor seals, killer whales, bald eagles, and an assortment of shorebirds. A tasty lunch will be served during your trip.
Bear Viewing - At Chichagof Island, you will land at one of the most beautiful beaches in Alaska. From there, you will board a van with your naturalist and bear guide and spend approximately two hours searching the Tongass National Forest in a search of brown bears and Sitka blacktail deer in their natural habitat. Your guide knows several locations for potential bear sightings, so if they cannot find them at one site, they will look at others. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but with the ability to cover more area, the potential of sightings is greater.
Flightseeing - From the bear viewing area, you will be transferred to the local airport to embark on a 25-35 minute flightseeing tour back to Juneau. You will have the opportunity to get a great view of the Inside Passage and the Juneau Icefield. Some of the highlights of this flight include: Chichagof Island, Admiralty Island, Point Retreat Lighthouse, Funter Bay, Icy Strait, Lynn Canal, Herbert Glacier, Eagle Glacier, Mendenhall Glacier, Mendenhall Glacier dogsled camps, Auke Bay and possibly even a few mountain goats.
Please Note: Based on weather / sea conditions, the tour may be done in a different order. If water conditions are too rough between Juneau and Hoonah the day of the tour, the guide may choose to skip the hour + boat trip and fly to Hoonah where your whale watching will begin and end. Final tour itinerary the day of the tour will be at the guide's discretion based on safety and guest's comfort. All times are approximate and may vary based on weather, travel conditions and pace of the group.
