This is a gentle introduction to white water rafting, fun for beginning and experienced rafters of all ages. The adventure begins with a scenic tour to Mendenhall Lake where you will have an excellent view of the glacier -- one and a half miles wide and one hundred and fifty feet high.
Near the shoreline, you will suit up with rain gear, life jackets and rubber boots which are provided. Each raft carries eight to twelve people and is rowed by an experienced guide. Paddle rafts are available for the more adventuresome.
Floating within sight of Mendenhall Glacier on its iceberg studded lake, you will be treated to spectacular views of hanging glaciers, towering peaks and glacial topography. You will then float down the Mendenhall River where you will encounter stretches of mild to moderate rapids that add excitement to the trip. An entertaining guide will explain the natural phenomena at work in this scenic valley. Once ashore you will enjoy an Alaskan-style snack.
