After meeting your professionally-trained guide on the pier, set out on a drive to the city of Nice. Although Nice was originally a Greek colony, its old town has a very Italian feel from Nice's long past as a part of Italy. Your walking tour starts on the Cours Saleya where you will see the location of the famous cut flower market, which is held in the early morning several days a week. Then, follow your guide as you wander the maze of narrow streets full of little shops, bistros, Baroque churches and mansions. At the end of your walking tour, enjoy free time for independent exploration, shopping or treating yourself to one of the local specialties during lunch on your own.
You will then leave the Old city and travel to the Château de Bellet, the historic residence of the Barons of Bellet which has been producing wines for centuries. The Château is located high in the hills north of Nice in a separate appellation known as the AOC Bellet. The grounds include a 15th Century castle and a family chapel. The Château is presided over by Ghislain de Charnacé, the grandson of the Baron of Bellet, who has also served as the President of the syndicate of vintners in the area. Château de Bellet wine was served at the Summit of Versailles in 1982 to former President Ronald Reagan and at the European Summit of Nice in 2000. Today it will be served to you as you learn about the Chateaus history and wine making. After your tasting, your transportation will return you to the pier in Monte Carlo.
