Departing the pier, you will drive to the old town section of Nice. Here you will receive a log-book with helpful information to enhance your travels through the maze of the old city. Then set out on foot with your guide to discover the history, traditions, local culinary specialties and the artists' studios hidden away in the old town. Your walking tour through the maze of narrow streets will give you an insight to the little shops and bistros, Baroque churches and mansions once inhabited by the nobility prior to the French Revolution.
The trip will be enhanced by a tasting of local specialties such as socca, different kinds of olive oil, and ice cream at a local market. You will then make a visit to the Palais Lascaris which was built around 1738. The palace was restored in the 1940s and features many of the buildings original features. The trompe l'oeil paintings, elaborate plasterwork, and an imposing façade, have survived as a testament to the era's wealth and prestige. A wide collection of decorative arts and furnishings document the period, as does a pharmacy restored and outfitted to the standards of 1738. After your visit to the palace, you will rejoin your transportation for the drive back to the pier.
