A 45-minute drive will take you from the Livorno port to Lucca, part of the lush landscape of Tuscany. Tour the ancient city, famed not only for the well-preserved city square, but also for the surrounding Renaissance-era walls. It's a history buff's paradise!
The walls are now a walkway where you can take a stroll and enjoy views of the city. Fans of history and architecture alike will appreciate the soaring towers, such as the Guinigi Tower, which has its own panoramic views of the area, and churches like San Michele in Foro, which is built atop an ancient Roman forum.
Break for lunch in the city square, Piazza della Anfiteatro, where you can enjoy some of the local cuisine and Tuscany's famous wines. Then it's off to the countryside, where your guide will give you a more personal introduction to Italian history. You will revel in the glory of a historic, aristocratic villa, replete with frescoes and furniture from eras past as you learn about local customs and the owner's fascinating family history.
The return trip will bring you to Pisa, where you'll have time to visit the iconic Leaning Tower and the Square of Miracles, where the Cathedral and Baptistery welcome thousands of visitors each year.
This full day tour is meant for small groups only. Please note that this booking does not include entrance fees to any museums or attractions. While food and beverages are not included on this tour, there will be items available for purchase during your scheduled lunch break. Your driver can also recommend local restaurants and cafes.
This tour is wheelchair accessible, but participants must be able to get into an out of a vehicle. Dress comfortably, taking the season and weather into account. Light layers and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
