Escape the roar of the city and the crowds as you set off for the rainforest with your own private guide.
Setting out from the city you will travel to the rainforest approximately 60 minutes drive from the city. The rain forest is a cool, mountainous, sub tropical rainforest located on the eastern side of the Luquillo Mountains. Upon arrival, you will set out with your guide on a walking tour of the Palo Colorado area of the forest while learning how tropical rainforests function, why they are so fragile, and why they are so important to the planet. The paths are paved with areas of packed dirt. As the rainforest is on the side of a mountain, there are several inclines.
A stop will be made at the Yokahu Observation Tower where, clouds permitting, you can see San Juan in one direction and Luquillo in the other. The tower's height is 66 feet high and the top is reached by climbing 98 steps.
Another stop will be made at the La Coca Falls where water from the upper forest runs across a large stone wall.
No visit to the rain forest is complete without a stop at the El Portal Rainforest Center, where you can view exhibits and presentations on the rainforest. The center also has restrooms and a gift shop.
Your return to San Juan will be via a different route to show you more of the varied landscape of this beautiful island.
