The waters around St Lucia are home to a wide variety of whales and dolphins. To date, in excess of 25 species of these magnificent mammals have been spotted in area waters. The sight of whales and dolphins in their natural habitats, whether they are feeding, mating, frolicking with their calves or just “cooling” out in the refreshing Caribbean waters, is magical and unforgettable.
The most frequently sighted whales are the, Sperm (45ft), the Pilot (20ft) and the Humpback (60ft). In addition, there are occasional sightings of Orcas, i.e. killer whales, which can grow to 30ft. There's also the possibility of seeing large pods of Dolphin, sometimes 150 at a time. They dazzle and hypnotize with their spectacular and lively antics. The most frequently sighted dolphin species are the Spotted, the Common, the Fraser, the Striped dolphin. There's even the chance of seeing Spinner dolphins, which leap playfully several yards into the air, while spinning up to seven times.
Your crew onboard are knowledgeable about whale and dolphin behavior and will provide a good understanding of the species your viewing. In addition, your boats are equipped with hydrophones, which will enable you to hear the Whales and Dolphins communicating by clicks, squeals, grunts and screams. Harmonious wailing sounds, which can be heard for several miles, emanate from the Humpback Whale, also known as the Singing Whale. As a result, this trip is a great way to be entertained and informed while on vacation and is a ideal choice for families.
After looking for whales and dolphins, you'll stop off at a beach restaurant for a scrumptious buffet lunch. After lunch, you'll head over to a gorgeous beach for some great swimming, before visiting picturesque Marigot Bay, considered to be the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean.
