Tour Details

After meeting your guide at the pier, your first stop is Fjällgatan, from where you will marvel at magnificent views of eight of Stockholm's 14 islands. No fewer than 54 bridges connect the islands to one another, giving the city its distinctive beauty.

Following your photo stop, continue your drive, passing Stockholm's medieval Old Town, most of which is a pedestrian walking area. The Old Town, called Gamla Stan by locals, dates back to the 13th century. Most of the buildings you can view from your transportation date back to the 17th and 18th century. As you drive around the town, you will also view the Parliament Building (House of Nobility) and the new Opera House that dates from 1899. The original Opera house, which was demolished to make room for the current day building dated back to 1775.

You will see the Royal Palace, a 600-room Baroque masterpiece overlooking the inner harbor. The palace was built in 1697 and is the largest castle in the world still used by a king. Pause to appreciate the palace's facade and the picturesque inner-harbor, before rejoining your transportation and venturing along Strandvägen, through the city center and past the imposing red brick City Hall.

Next, you will drive to the island of Djurgården. A look at this beautiful recreation area and park will give you an idea of why the island is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike. The present name, Djurgården, stems from the game park of King John III, built in 1579 to keep deer, reindeer, and elk. Today, the island is protected as a historical monument with several buildings reflecting its varied past. It is also called museum Island as it is home to the Vasa, Aquaria, Skansen, Nordic, the Biological, The Thielska Galleriet and the Waldemarsudde museums. Your return journey to the pier features the diplomatic area of town, the fashionable district of Östermalm and Södermalm, Stockholm's largest island.
