Stockholm is widely acknowledged as one of the world's most beautiful cities and is often called the Venice of Scandinavia. Dramatically situated at a point where the cobalt blue Lake Mälaren meets and clashes with the darker hue of the Baltic Sea, the city has been splendidly endowed by nature.
Departing from the pier, you will first visit Fjällgatan from where you will have a magnificent view of 8 out of the 14 islands which Stockholm is built upon. No fewer than 54 bridges connect the islands with each other. The drive continues as you pass the medieval Old Town, the Royal Palace, the Parliament building, the National Museum, the Royal Dramatic Theater and along the quayside boulevard Strandvägen to Djurgården and the Vasa Museum.
'Between four and five o'clock the great new warship Vasa keeled over and sank'. A few short lines about a major disaster for a magnificent ship that sank on her very first voyage were written in a book on August 10, 1628. The Vasa was found almost intact, after three centuries on the bottom of Stockholm Strøm in 1956 and was salvaged. The Vasa is now the oldest fully preserved ship in the world. Adorned with more than 700 carved sculptures; she is also a unique treasury of arts. You will have free time to explore the museum after your guided tour.
The return drive to the pier will pass Diplomatic Town, the Fashionable district of Östermalm, apartment houses and the biggest Island of Stockholm, Södermalm.
