Colonial Antigua & Santa Teresita Hot Springs

Hot Springs
April 16, 2019
The ride to the hot springs was interesting and rugged. Enjoyed the lunch and the hot springs. There are actually several different pools of varying temperatures that you do in a circuit--cold, hot, medium, cold, etc. It was fun. Lunch was appetizing and we had choices of food; the service was good. While in one of the pools we sang happy birthday to one of the travelers in our group, and to our surprise they brought out cake and candle for him. Very thoughtful and generous.

The drive into Antigua was long but we got to see a volcano and our guide gave good information about the area. Lunch was excellent and the time at the Springs was amazing!

Colonial Antigua and Teresita Hot Springs

Our guide was very knowledgeable. On the ride to Antigua, he shared lots of information and answered many questions. We had an excellent driver in our air conditioned van. I would have liked to spend a little more time in Antigua, but cruise schedules limit flexibility. Getting us back to the ship on time was clearly a priority. Lunch at the hot springs was delicious. But because of the time schedule, they asked us to change into swimsuits and come to lunch. We were seated in swimwear so I would suggest bringing a cover. The food was delicious! As our visit was on Sunday, no alcohol could be served. The spa was beautiful but a bit crowded.

The bus ride to Antigua was pretty amazing as we circled an active volcano to Antigua; the locals were pretty blase, but we were glued to the windows. Antigua was interesting in the historical sense, but the Hot Springs were a delight! While dipping into pools of various temperatures, you gaze upon the volcanic mountains while enjoying fruit drinks! Excellent!

Antigua and hot springs

We had a problem finding the start point due to the ship docking in the port area and not the cruise dock due to it being damaged by a previous ship. When we eventually got on the right shuttle and found the guide we were an hour late. He had taken the trouble to wait for us. The guide was a charming, knowledgeble and friendly and gave us a great trip. The great thing about these tours is that they are small groups. I could not find any fault with this tour.

The drive up to the city shows you the country, the city of Antigua was a big surprise, it is a lot cooler up there and the cleanliness and the old beauty of the city is something you have to see for yourself. The hotsprings was like a whole other world, 5* for sure, the food was delicious, the pools were perfect and the staff goes above and beyond. Our tour guides and driver were all fantastic, thanks to all for such a memorable trip!

A full day!

Very interesting and worthwhile excursion with good tour guides. Lots of street vendors in old Antigua but not aggressive and some good bargains to be had. The lunch at the spa was good with a choice of American or local food on the menu and the spa itself was first class.

The trip to get to Antigua and then to get to ST Hot Springs took awhile. Once we arrived at Antigua, it was a good overview of the city. City and it's architectural buildings were interesting. Street vendors would not leave you alone (kept hounding you constantly). Enjoyed a nice lunch - good food and plenty of it. The high point of our excursion was the ST Hot Springs. We enjoyed the 4 different pools all at different water temperatures. Very relaxing - wish we could have stayed longer. Jose and Juan Pablo were very good and took great care of us!
