Split Beach Bike Tour

Animated, upbeat and engaging, with excellent command of English and an extraordinary vocabulary, my guide Marina, articulated the tangled lines of trade, war, politics and religion that formed today's modern Croatia with passion and pride that was both compelling and refreshing as we tooled our way through the crowded market, the ruins of Diocletian's palace and on past the pier along a treed road to a series of beautiful beaches and park - like settings. We even saw a Dalmation (the dog) - which triggered another bit of history about trade on the coast - and we were back to Marina's storefront by lunchtime where she treated me to a liqueur and a fresh clementine. I would have been more comfortable on a mountain - type bicycle rather than the 6 or 7 speed twist grip provided, but it was a fine tour. I recommend this tour to anyone - even if you're not thrilled with history, it's a refreshing seaside ride in a beautiful country.
