Sunrise & Ride - Doesn't Get Much Better

Christmas Day sunrise @ 5:55 was spectacular...dress warm for the wait. We proceeded downhill a bit for the ride. The ride was easy, guide at the front is in constant communication with the trailing truck...we owned the entire lane, while periodically having to pull over to let some traffic by. Stats: 22 miles, just over 1 hour moving time, Elapsed Time: 1hr 36mins; Avg Speed: 18.4mph; Max Speed: 30.9mph.
Only con: Do not forget any personal gear, you will not get it back. I had a Go-Pro on my helmet, by the next day when I realized that I had forgot it, it was gone.

We were completely satisfied with this excursion (with one exception, see below), and even more satisfied with Dean and John. They make a great team in terms of safety and fun. I was leery about the trip because of the weather (quite windy and chilly), but it turned out to be perfect. It is a long ride up through winding roads so make sure you don't get car sick. The sunrise is phenomenal, but I'd like to do it on a warmer day, if possible. So incredibly cold. But our guides knew the deal and had us in the ranger station for some warmth until just before sunset. The ride down is fantastic, with just enough stops to catch your breath and get photos. Unfortunately, our stop in town for a little breakfast was a bust because it was a holiday. Only complaint is that they packed 13 adults into the van. The back seat is not comfortable for 4 adults. It made for a miserable start; thank goodness it ended on a high note. Try to find out how many other passengers there will be in the vehicle.
