Private Pompeii & Amalfi Coast

Leaving from the cruise ship terminal in Salerno, this private tour will take you on a winding journey through the history of Pompeii and on the roads of the stunning Amalfi Coast. A driver will chauffeur you and your companions from site to site in comfort in your own private sedan or van. It's a luxurious way to see the beauty of Italy.

As you leave from Salerno bright and early, you will begin to make your way to Pompeii. In the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, you'll find the preserved ancient city of Pompeii, an archaeological and cultural treasure, where the ghosts and echoes of history can still be seen and heard in the ruins of the ancient Roman city. You can wander two thousand-year-old roads and glimpse into the temples and villas of this ancient city. You will see everything from colorful, lively frescoes and mosaics to the ghostly, white stone people of the city, frozen in time forever. You'll have three hours to explore the history and culture of Italy in Pompeii before breaking for lunch (at your own expense). Ask your driver for suggestions on local restaurants and cafes that you may enjoy.

After a lunch break, you will then hit the Coast Road, which wraps itself around the coastline and offers vistas that blur into the distant horizon and precarious views to the crashing waves below. Your views of the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida will make for beautiful photographs, as will the mythical vista of Mount Vesuvius.

Make a stop in Sorrento, famous for its lemons and a liqueur made from them called Limoncello. The cliffs and the narrow roads that curve around and through them make for beautiful photos, as do the Marina Grande and Marina Piccolo, two ports that offer beautiful sea views.

Take joy in the continued beauty of the panoramic views of the coast, as you pass through Praiano on your way to Amalfi, where colorful tiers of houses blend into tree-dappled cliffs that climb into the clouds. This city is dramatic in its beauty, sitting at the mouth of a ravine, almost plunging into the sea. The heart of the city is the Piazza Duomo, where Saint Andrew's Cathedral, with its Romanesque bell tower and brightly mosaiced Byzantine towers, sits gleaming at the top of a staircase.

From Amalfi you will travel through the Dragon's Valley, up to the hilltop town of Ravello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Check out the view from Villa Rufolo or Villa Rufolo, which looks out over the bright blue sea or visit the delightful and romantic Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone.

Bookings for this full day tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast are available from March through November. This private tour does not include entrance fees or tickets to local attractions. Though your English-speaking driver can provide commentary while driving you around, they cannot act as a guide outside of the car. After the day's tour, your driver will return you to the cruise ship terminal in Salerno.

Please Note: Some terrain in Italy is uneven, and archaeological sites can be challenging for those who are not surefooted or who do not have good mobility, so keep that in mind when booking your tour.
