Private Magnificent Truro Cathedral & Trelissick Gardens
Private Magnificent Truro Cathedral & Trelissick Gardens
Departing the pier, drive through Falmouth to the Cornish capital of Truro. Your guide will relate the history connected to this area, where the legend of King Arthur was created.
The skyline is dominated by the Cathedral. It was built between 1880 and 1910, over the site of the previous St. Marys, which dates from around 1250 AD. Truro's medieval styled cathedral was the first Anglican cathedral to be built in England for 200 years.
Visit the Cathedral to see St. Mary's aisle, which includes part of the old medieval parish church, and the circular neo-Gothic baptistery with its fine roof vaulting.
Following your overview of Truro, head for Trelissick Gardens.
Cornwall is the garden lover's paradise. The warm air currents brought by the Gulf stream create a micro climate here, allowing tropical plants to flourish naturally. Trelissick is renowned as one of the best gardens in the country.
Now owned by the National Trust, the extensive gardens include a collection of hydrangeas, fern and fig gardens, and fine specimen trees. The garden offers beautiful views over the Falmouth estuary and harbour. Even those not so enthusiastic about gardens will appreciate this beautiful setting. After an orientation tour, you will have approximately 90 minutes to tour on your own.
Following the visit, you will return to Falmouth.
