Alebrije and Chocolate Hands-On Workshop

This hands-on workshop is great for kids of all ages and fun for the entire family! Immerse yourself in Mexican culture at the Discover Mexico Park and make and take-home memories of a true Mexican experience.

First, you will make your way to the Discover Mexico Park and take a tour discovering the Mexican Traditional Arts Museum and the Audio Visual room to learn the history of this amazing country. Your small group of no more than 20 guests will receive special and personal attention.

Next, you will taste some true history of Mexico as you take a deep dive into all things chocolate and make your own chocolate bar. During this workshop you will learn about the origin of chocolate and how it is processed. Taste and compare several varieties of cocoa, then grind and prepare your very own bar under the supervision of a skilled chocolate artisan.

Make your way to the picturesque Dioramic Garden next. Walk through flower-lined garden pathways and get a glimpse of the Spanish Colonial era through recreations of grand monuments, cathedrals, and the elegant Paseo de la Reforma boulevard.

Last, but not least, a highlight of the day will be when you have the opportunity to create your very own Alebrije. Alebrijes are mythical and fantastic creatures developed by artist Pedro Linares back in the 1900s. Linares fell ill and hallucinated of rocks and clouds turning into wild, colorful creatures with wings, horns, tails, fierce teeth and bulging eyes. After his recovery, Linares started re-creating those animals which caught the attention of the art world and today are a feature in Mexican culture. During this workshop you will paint your very own wooden creature to take home.

Finally, you will enjoy a delicious taco buffet where handmade tortillas are freshly prepared every morning and one of the staff will show you how they are made. Wash down your delicious tacos with your favorite beverage. This family-friendly, 4-hour tour sells out fast so book now and take part in this hands-on history of Mexico.
