Private Amalfi Drive with Pompeii, Positano and Sorrento

This tour will be conducted by car, van or small mini-coaches, giving you the opportunity to reach Positano, where large coaches are not permitted, and allowing time to see the most important sights that characterize the Gulf of Naples. Known as one of the most spectacular scenic roads anywhere, the Amalfi Drive is a favorite destination for countless visitors. After meeting your professionally-trained guide, on the tender pier in Sorrento, if you are in a group of 7 or less, you will board your transportation and drive up the narrow road from the pier up to the town of Sorrento, perched on the cliffs above. Groups of 8 or more will board a minibus to reach your larger vehicle parked above in Sorrento. From Sorrento, you will pass through the mountains to the Amalfi Coast. Your drive along this narrow and exhilarating road will reward you with photo opportunities around every corner.

Further along the coast, you will reach Positano, where a picture postcard comes to life - a patchwork of flat and domed roofs and vine-covered stairways tumbling down to meet the gentle curve of beach, which is dotted with brightly colored fishing boats. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this elegant spot with its designer boutiques, shops, and seaside cafes. Groups larger than 12 will need to transfer to a smaller vehicle for the transfer from the Amalfi Drive down to Positano. The town is predominately a pedestrian area with numerous steps and inclines.

Lunch will be taken near Pompeii. After lunch, you will proceed to the old City where one of the ancient world's worst disasters preserved time. You will tour Pompeii, where you will see life as it was lived in 79 AD. Once a thriving empire, it was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city. As you enter Pompeii by one of its ancient Gates, a short walk takes you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you will begin to grasp the lifestyle of the inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome; view countless paintings and inscriptions. See the streets with raised pavements on both sides and the stepping-stones that ensured pedestrians a safe crossing at intersections.

You will return to the fabled town of Sorrento. Legend tells us it was the "sirens" of Sorrento who attempted to lure Ulysses onto the rocks. This delightful town has a wonderful climate and marvelous views of Naples Bay. Take a stroll around the main square and explore the side streets. There are many souvenir shops and local specialties including articles of highly polished wood inlaid with beautiful marquetry. You will see first-hand why its delightful climate makes the village a favorite Mediterranean resort. From here you will return to the tender pier below.

Those guests wishing to end their tour above in the town of Sorrento may do so. They will then be responsible for getting down to the tender pier via either a taxi or walking
