Wildlife Tour

Setting out from your hotel in Anchorage, we will drive you south along the Turnagain Arm, looking to the left for possible sheep, mountain goats, or moose sightings, and to the right for beluga whales, eagles, salmon, and more.

Upon reaching Girdwood, we will make a stop at the main attraction of this tour, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Alaska's wildlife through conservation, education, and quality animal care. Most of the animals that have come to AWCC were either orphaned or injured. With consent from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, animals are taken in, treated and rehabilitated. Depending on their individual case and condition, they may be released back into the wild, transferred to another facility, or given a permanent home at the Center. Here you are guaranteed to see animals.

The residents are constantly changing as new ones arrive and, hopefully, many are released back into nature. The possibilities of animals you may see are bears, moose, elk, caribou, and all kinds of other Alaskan wild animals including the Arctic Musk Ox. As you walk along from one open-air compound to the next, you will have the possibility of seeing Alaska's animals in a natural setting.

For guests so inclined, there will be opportunities to become an associate or even to "adopt" an animal through the financial support of the center.

You will then return to Anchorage where drop-offs will be made at several hotels. This tour lasts approximately 4 hours and includes photo stops along the Turnagain Arm to look for Wildlife.
