There's scuba diving, and then there's the scuba diving you'll find ONLY on this Dominica Champagne Reef One-Tank Scuba Tour!
This exciting tour takes you from your ship on a short, 15-minute drive south of Roseau, through the picturesque village of Pointe Michel, to the diving facility at Champagne Reef.
Champagne is Dominica's premier diving and snorkeling site and rates among the top five snorkeling sites in the Caribbean. Underwater geothermal springs vent gasses in the form of thousands of warm bubbles, giving you a feeling of swimming through a giant glass of champagne. And that's not all - the reef here is quite spectacular! You can expect to see a myriad of sea life including sponges, lobster, parrot fish and a resident population of hawksbill sea turtles and green turtles. You may also view seahorses and the remains of a 17th-century Spanish shipwreck.
Upon arrival at the dive shop, you will be outfitted with high-quality diving gear and given an orientation of the facility and the adventure that awaits you on the reef.
You will swim out to the reef right from the shore. Your one-tank dive of the reef is led by a professional PADI-certified "dive master" who will instruct you on the correct use of your gear and brief you on what you are likely to see and experience once in the water.
After your tour you can enjoy the comfort and convenience of the dive center, with showers, changing rooms, refreshments, a gift shop and a sundeck overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea. You will then return to the cruise pier.
Guests must be able to walk down an incline and over a rocky shore to access the water.
Health restrictions apply and a waiver and medical statement is required to be filled out by all participants. Please look at the following example:
If you cannot pass the questionnaire, or do not have the required physician's statement, you will not be permitted to dive. Guests not able to dive will not be entitled to a refund so please look at the questionnaire BEFORE booking this tour.
IN ADDITION: If you are taking medication, consult your doctor before participating in this program.
The dive was great and the divemaster was awesome! He took great care to point out hidden treasures including a submerged cannon and hidden animals. The pickup from the pier could have had better instructions. The email said to meet at the pier, but actually the meeting place was a block up the street. The return to the ship from the dive site also took a longer than needed amount of time, but once we were in our guides' hands we were well taken care of. The dive entry and exit was rather treacherous due to the rough stone beachhead. A thick rubber walkway was extended but slick. I don't think there is much that can be done to improve that, but be cautious in your footing. The guides did help greatly transporting gear into the water, and dropping the tanks before exit. A positive experience dispite the small hiccups and highly recommended to seasoned divers. Worth the trip.
The Champagne Reef Dive & Snorkel Center offers a great dive in a beautiful location. We are certified but don't dive often but this was a very comfortable dive with lots of colorful corals, fish and sponges to look at. The bubbles are just added fun. Jefferson, our dive master, was super. We put complete trust in him and he did not disappoint. We got a bit tired toward the end and he helped us every step of the way. It was great to relax at the outdoor snack bar on a cliff overlooking the beautiful ocean and enjoy some local seafood. This was one of the prettiest reefs we have dove on and would come back again.
