Copala Colonial Tour

Here's an exceptional excursion to the colonial villages of Malpica, Concordia, and Copala, located at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Each of these Mexican villages has its own appeal.

While in Malpica, you'll see locals making colorful floor tiles by hand, and you'll get to see bread being made in a rustic kiln. Concordia offers a great opportunity to see how local artisans hand-craft beautiful furniture, pottery, and roof tiles. Concordia is home to the French-style City hall and the San Sebastian temple, built-in 1608 with beautiful arches.

The highlight of the Colonial Tour is Copala, an ancient old mining town with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1565. Copala is a colorful town filled with bougainvillea and roofs with traditional red tiles. Stroll down cobblestone streets and get to know some of Copala's 600 friendly residents. You will also be treated to a typical Mexican lunch with your choice of chicken or beef fajitas or Asado a la Plaza, which is a traditional dish, and consists of pre-cooked beef and potatoes cooked over oil, topped with shredded lettuce, carrot, and bathed in a warm tomato sauce.

Afterwards, you will have an opportunity to see one of the main attractions in Copala, which is the San Jose church. The original San Jose church dates back to the 1700s and sits high on a hill at the center of town facing the central plaza. It is a great example of an early colonial Mexican Catholic church and reflects the wealth of mid-1700s Copala.
