Private Ultimate Barcelona for Discerning Foodies

Quite literally, this private full-day tour is A Taste of Barcelona.

After meeting your professionally trained guide, you will set off for the La Boqueria market, the largest marketplace in Spain. The market is like a museum of the brightest, most curious and delectable foods Europe has to offer. For more than 800 years, this has been a wonderland of fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, baked goods and sweets, arriving by sea or the nearby fertile farmlands. But be warned: not only is it a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes and scents, it can also lead to taste bud overload.

Your expert culinary guide will lead you through the maze of booths to visit those considered the best. You will sample some of their fresh local produce during a stop at one of La Boqueria's most famous bars for a tapa with perhaps chantrelle mushrooms, or fresh cockles, squid or maybe even scrambled eggs with wild asparagus. A glass of fine brut cava must surely accompany this traditional treat.

Walking on, you will taste of some of the best Spanish cheeses at a charming local cheese shop, paired with some excellent local wine. Judge for yourself why the Tou de Tilars, Cabrales or Mahon cheeses are so appreciated by the locals. In between your delicious tastings, you will also have the opportunity to learn a lot about the monuments that surround you and their remarkable Spanish history, from your expert guide.

For something sweet, you will stop at the oldest venue in Barcelona for a sampling of fruits and dried nuts such as hazelnuts from Lleida, almonds from Tarragona, homemade nougats and chocolates, accompanied by sweet Mistrela wine. This quaint and local store, specializing in roasting coffee beans and nuts for over 150 years, is still decorated with its original furniture and old wood-burning stove.

Your light lunch of exquisite tapas will include Spain's best Iberic "bellota" ham, Joselito, fine cold meats and sausages, the finest wild tuna, anchovies, clams from Galicia, a selection of the best Spanish olive oils, cheeses, salads etc., all enjoyed at one of the best delicatessens in the city. Wine wise, you will be in very good hands, with English-speaking sommeliers to guide you through their more than 6000 wines.

Once you are settled at the deli, your guide will leave you, but not before giving you additional ideas for sightseeing or shopping in this fascinating town. They will also suggest where later, you may want to stop and purchase a delicious chocolate con churros in a charming local cafe, one of the best places in Barcelona for this local delicacy.
