Discover Volcano Country

Discover how the powerful forces of nature have shaped the people and landscape of this dynamic region, Hawaii's largest land district.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on Hawaii Island (the Big Island). At its heart are the Kilauea and Mauna Loa active volcanoes. The Crater Rim Drive passes steam vents and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Visitors Center, which features volcanology exhibits and a viewpoint overlooking Halema'uma'u Crater. The Chain of Craters Road weaves over lava and trails crisscross the park.

Drive off-road to a private lava tube known for its bright yellow and gold microbial mats living on and accenting the cave walls. This lava tube is only accessible to Hawaii Forest & Trail guests.

The perfect blend of nature and culture is led by an expert guide. This tour reveals what it's like to live on two active volcanoes.

Discover all the "must see" spots within the Park, including the dramatically changes Halemaumau Crater.

Walk across a crystal-fine black sand beach, as you search for basking sea turtles at Richardson's Black Sand Beach. Immerse yourself in stories of Hawaiian legends and mythology, with a focus on Pele, Hawaiian goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanoes. Explore a lava tube and discover the mysteries of how these tunnels are formed. You won't want to miss this exciting tour of Volcano Country!

Enjoy a locally-made lunch that includes a sandwich (choice of turkey, ham, tuna, or veggie) or macadamia nut salad, chips, a sweet treat, sodas and juice drinks in a beautiful outdoor setting.
