Step into the past with this exciting day tour of Edinburgh's venerated castles and chapels.
Your journey begins as you travel to Rosslyn Chapel with its red sandstone exterior, ornate stonework and intricate Italian carvings. Legend has it, a sealed vault lies under your feet that could contain the Holy Grail of the Knights of Templar, ancient sacred scrolls, a piece of the cross of Jesus or his embalmed head, depending on whom you ask. This 13th century chapel and its mysteries were the inspiration for Dan Brown's book The DaVinci Code.
Continue on to the heart of Edinburgh and the iconic Edinburgh Castle. Built in the 12th century, this fortress contains the Crown Room where the breathtaking Stone of Destiny, jeweled sceptre and crown used in various coronations are on display. Discover St. Margaret's Chapel, built in 1130 for Scottish royals to privately worship, it is situated behind Mons Meg, the large 6 ton cannon dating back to 1457.
From here you can follow the Royal Mile, the old cobbled road lined with Reformation-era tenement buildings, from the castle rock to the royal residence of Holyrood Palace.
Stop at the elegant New Town, full of gorgeous Georgian architecture, neoclassical buildings and peaceful gardens. Ascend to Arthur's Seat at the top of an extinct volcano for panoramic views of Edinburgh and beyond.
