Full Day Lisbon and Fatima

In the morning, you will tour delightful Lisbon. You will first travel to the Belem Quarter, where you will find many beautiful and historical monuments from the 15th and 16th centuries. A brief photo stop will be made outside the Belem Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which marks the point of departure of some of the Portuguese maritime explorations. You will also see the nearby Monument to the Discoveries (Padrao dos Descobrimentos), built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the "death" of Prince Henry the Navigator.

Next, you will visit the church of S. Jerome Monastery, another UNESCO World Heritage site, and a masterpiece of the Manueline style of architecture. You will then visit the National Palace of Ajuda, was the royal residence of King Luis I. It is home to a beautiful collection of decorative arts from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as paintings, sculptures, and photographs.

Following the river, you will drive to the Alfama, an old and traditional district, where you will have the opportunity to walk in its narrow cobblestone streets and visit a handicraft shop. There you'll have the opportunity to taste an aperitif of Port wine.

A drive through the downtown (Baixa) area will allow you to admire the most important squares of Lisbon, such as the monumental Trade Square (Praca do Comercio), Rossio Square, the heart of Lisbon, and the symbolic Restauradores Square.

You will then be driven along the Liberdade Avenue, the boulevard of Lisbon, to finish your morning segment at Pombal Square. Here, you will have free time to purchase lunch on your own, shop or both.

In the afternoon, you will depart Lisbon, and travel to Fatima. Your first point of visit is the Sanctuary, the location of the Basilica with the tombs of Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia, the Chapel of Apparitions, the heart of the Sanctuary, and the new Church of the Holy Trinity, the fourth largest in the world by capacity.

You will be given a guided tour followed by free time to explore or possibly attend part of a mass if one is going on. At the appointed time, you will meet your transportation back to Lisbon.

Please Note: On Thursdays, the Ajuda National Palace is closed, and will be replaced with a visit to the Coach Museum.
