Private Grand Canyon & Nizwa Highlights

On this day long journey, see historical landmarks, learn about the region's heritage, and explore the magnificence of the famous Grand Canyon of Oman.

This full day guided tour of Oman starts with a drive to Nizwa, enjoying the picturesque mountainous landscape along the way. Once in Nizwa, you will get to roam around one of the largest markets of Oman. This open souq is filled with colorful vendors who are selling everything from produce and fish to jewelry and handicrafts. You'll be tempted to pick up some goodies and perhaps a few souvenirs to take home to friends and family. If you happen to arrive on a Friday, the souq will be especially lively as it holds its Friday cattle market.

This circus style arena is used for locals to bring their cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens to sell. After exploring the souq, you will have a tour of the nearby museum. This museum was once the Nizwa Fortress and now offers visitors the chance to enjoy the lovely views while roaming the historic rooms, passages, and towers. The Nizwa Fortress reflects the economic achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. Its architecture proves how strongly built it was against the attacks of its time.

From Nizwa, travel through the Wadi Ghul and arrive at Jebel Shams, known as the "Mountain of the Sun," and the the undisputed lord of the mountains. Jebel Shams is the highest peak of the Jebel Al Akhdar mountain range, soaring 3,000 meters above sea level. It features spectacular scenery, ancient rock carvings, and remote villages. This is the Grand Canyon of Oman. There will be time to experience some of the breath-taking scenery before continuing to the beautiful old village of Misfah.

The village of Misfah is perched on the side of a mountain where narrow, ancient stone pathways lead you into the valley below. Lunch will be held in a restaurant, where you can savour local delicacies at the top of the mountain. Afterwards, you will explore the ancient labyrinth of the region of Al Hamra before your return trip to Muscat.

This very special, private excursion is filled with everything you will want to see and do while visiting Nizwa, plus a little more!
