Kailua - Kona Overview by Segway

Step on board and experience one of technology's most unique, personalized modes of transportation, the Segway Personal Transporter (PT), as your Kailua-Kona Village Tour transports you back in time.

After completing your Segway training, you and your guide will travel along Kuakini Highway to the "Old Kona Airport," also known as the "Old A," which was once a WWII landing strip but is currently a mile-long state recreational park where we can freely travel through a botanical garden while taking in the sights and sounds of the oceanfront.

Next, proceed to Kona Village and the oceanfront Ali'I Drive, which is a Hawaii Scenic Byway, where we settle into it our Segways and take pleasure in the "Royal Footsteps Along the Kona Coast" and the magnificence of the ocean vistas. Archaeological sites that have endured for many years can be found along this highway.

We travel through the village while learning about the area's rich Hawaiian history, stopping at sites like Kailua Pier, which serves as both the starting and finishing line for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon (October), and Ahu'ena Heiau (place of worship), which is located north of the pier and was King Kamehameha the Great's personal retreat and temple as well as the place where he spent his final years.

Next, we'll pass the historic Kona Beach Hotel, which is situated near the heiau constructed on the former King Kamehameha's estate and Hulihee Palace. Hawaiian Royalty used to spend their vacations at this palace, which is now a museum. Next, we glide along Ali'I Drive, stopping at the farmer's market if it's open, to pick up some fresh produce and other products you may want to purchase. We continue through the village to the only surfing area on the South Shore, where we take a brief break to see the beauty of the surf and beach. Gliding back through the Village, we then stop at Moku'Auikaua Church, the Island's first Christian Church built in 1820 across the street from the Palace.

Our trip comes to an end as we glide along Kona Village's main street with all its fun beach shops and activity spots to our original point of departure. This enjoyable Kona Village tour is accessible to anyone 10 years old and older.
