Private Mari Mari Cultural Village Tour

During this private tour you will feel like you are stepping back in time as you meet descendants of 5 ethnic Sabah tribes and learn how their ancestors lived and worked in the era before modern-day luxuries such as electricity.

Your adventure begins with a short ride into the countryside to a village like no other. Upon arrival you will be warmly greeted and taken into the different homes representing each of the 5 tribes: Kadazan, Rungus, Bajau, Lundayeh, and Murut. Each home is built according to the tradition of the tribe with its own unique architecture and usage, allowing you an exclusive peek into what their daily life was like.

Learn how the Kadazan and Rungus people farmed rice, hear the seafaring stories of the Bajau and find out how the Lundayeh practiced agriculture. Discover why the Murut were the last tribe to renounce headhunting and the role this practice had in their spiritual, cultural, and protective beliefs.

Stop in the demonstration huts and observe ancient activities such as crafting a blowpipe by hand. Watch tattooing as you learn about their symbols and learn how to make fire from a bamboo tree without the use of a lighter.

Reserve your spot now to get a firsthand look and feel for what ancient Sabahan life was like.
