Lava Forest and Falls

Indulge yourself on this exclusive, upscale Hawaii tour of the Big Island's natural waterfalls and rainforest. Climb aboard your luxury transportation with your guide and head to the 80-ft. Rainbow Falls.

Known in the Hawaiian language as Wai?nuenue ("rainbow water"), the falls flows over a natural lava cave, the mythological home to Hina, an ancient Hawaiian goddess. Rainbow Falls is well named. On sunny mornings around 10 a.m., rainbows can be seen in the mist thrown up by the waterfall.

Next, go down onto the older back roads of Hawaii that wind along mango groves and trees of the Nanawale Rainforest. Afterward, you'll go into Lava Tree State Park, where long ago lava burst out of fissures onto Ohia trees, leaving incredible and indelible lava molds. Visit Ahalanui's warm springs, with its volcanically heated water.

Along the way and during brief stops, view the dramatic and beautiful scenery formed when hot lava met the cool sea. Kaimu was once the site of a famous black sand beach and a small town, both destroyed by a 1990 lava flow. Walk on the old lava flows and view the active volcanic vent in the distance. View a photo exhibit and see how the area looked prior to 1990 and the rainforest that is now taking it back.

Your tour ends with a drive through a macadamia nut orchard and a sampling of the multiple combinations of flavored mac nuts.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to walk short distances unaided. Please be assured that both Hilo and Kona remain largely unaffected by the current eruption of Kilauea volcano and that it is still safe to travel to the Big Island of Hawaii (Hawaii Island). The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is now open; however, this tour will continue to operate with a modified itinerary since there are still several areas blocked off on the eastern rift zone of the volcano. The modified itinerary is as follows: Black Sand Beach, Rainbow Falls, Liliuokalani Japanese Garden, Down Town Hilo, Macadamia Nut Farm, King Kamehameha Statue, Orchid Flower Nursery, Volcanoes National Park, Steam Vents, Sulfur Banks, Kilauea Visitor Center & Exhibits, Kilauea Iki Crater look out.
