Private St. Paul de Vence and Maeght Foundation
Private St. Paul de Vence and Maeght Foundation
After meeting your professionally trained guide on the pier, journey to the Provence hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Built on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by its ramparts which are for the most part still intact, St. Paul is certainly one of the most beautiful villages in Provence.
You can feel the quality of life and sense the exceptional light that has inspired numerous artists, painters, writers and poets, to visit, and some to take up residence.
After an orientation from your guide, you will have free time to explore. As you wander the narrow picturesque streets of the village, you will discover magnificent stone facades from the 16th and 18th centuries, now home to workshops, museums or shops. At every turn there is another garden, square, ancient fountain, or other wonderful photo opportunity.
A short drive away is The Maeght Foundation, a private Foundation conceived to present modern and contemporary art in all its forms. Painters and sculptors collaborated closely with the architect and together created monumental works of art integrated into the building and gardens: the Giacometti courtyard, the Miro labyrinth filled with sculptures and ceramics, mural mosaics by Chagall and Tal-Coat, a pool and stained glass window by Braque, a Bury fountain, are just some of the reasons why the Maeght Foundation collection of 20th-century art is one of the most important in Europe. After you tour the museum, you will drive back to the pier.
