Milonga Tour

Learn the famous dance of Argentina on this milonga tango tour that includes dance lessons, a visit to the World Tango Museum, and a stop for chocolate and churros. This tour requires a lot of movement, so make sure you wear your most comfortable shoes before dancing up a storm.

Your Buenos Aires tour begins at Confiteria La Ideal, a coffee shop that's no stranger to milongas (tango dance parties). There you'll learn the main steps of the Argentine tango, a dance that dates back to the 19th century and originated in the Buenos Aires suburbs. If you have two left feet, don't worry: the instructor will guide you each step of the way before you progress to milonga, a faster-paced dance that's similar to a polka.

After your two-hour dance lesson, you'll make your way to the World Tango Museum. Opened in 2003, the museum is relatively new and home to a number of interesting exhibits. Visitors can see the evolution of the dance throughout the years and admire artifacts such as the fedora of tango star Carlos Gardel, who died tragically in a 1935 plane crash in Colombia. You'll also see old concert posters, records, and even a pair of old dancing shoes from the 1920s.

This milonga tango trip concludes with a stop at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest cafe in all of Argentina, for some churros and chocolate. The cafe dates back to 1858 and has received visits from several prominent figures, such as Albert Einstein, Hillary Clinton, and Robert Duvall. The cafe features a small stage in the basement for tango and jazz performances as well as book presentations and poetry readings. Book your milonga tour today to travel back in time for a glimpse at tango's storied past and to experience for yourself the magic of this world-famous dance.
