Miramar Movie Tour

Welcome to Wellington and the home to New Zealand's movie-making industry. This tour will be an incredible opportunity for those interested in learning about special effects produced by local geniuses such as Richard Taylor, Jamie Selkirk, James Cameron, and Peter Jackson.

Your guided tour will begin with a scenic drive up to Mount Victoria, a prominent hill immediately to the east of central Wellington. While here, look around, take it all in, and photograph the picturesque beauty of the Miramar Peninsula. From there, you will stop at the Wellington sign located on a Miramar hillside near the city's airport. Surely it will remind you of a similar sign in the USA.

As your excursion continues, you will arrive at Weta Cave, your gateway to incredible film-making experiences. As part of your journey, you will take part in the Weta Cave Workshop tour. The Weta Cave Workshop is a world-leading design and effects facility in Miramar, Wellington. During your workshop tour, you will experience a behind-the-scenes look at how Weta Workshop craft some of the world's biggest films (i.e., The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, and The Hobbit, to name a few). While here, you can snap a selfie with their life-sized sculptures, wander through their mini-museum, and watch their exclusive documentary (subject to availability).

Your guide will then take you around to the Roxy Cinema, a 1930's Art Deco cinema, cafe, and restaurant designed by Weta Workshop, where you will be provided with a hot drink while touring the area. This is most definitely a movie lover's paradise.

Your tour will come to an end as you are driven back to the pier area with a stimulated imagination and long-lasting memories of your incredible day in Wellington.
