Private Bites and Sights

Have a flavorful introduction to picturesque, windswept Punta Arenas on an action-packed private tour that allows you personal attention to discover some of the city's highlights. Channel Ernest Shackleton's unbreakable spirit as you heroically climb a small hill and be provided a stunning view across the city and then taste a few of the best Patagonian dishes in town. Get acquainted with one of the world's most southerly cities with a local, knowledgeable guide by your side as they show you what makes their home so very special.

Your private tour begins in the historical center of Punta Arenas, the place where it all began and where settlers and adventurers alike called this city home. Your local guide will enlighten you on the history of the city as they lead you to the first stop of the day, experience breakfast like a local with a delicious Choriqueso (bread with chorizo and cheese), and banana milk. This is the breakfast of choice for native Patagonians and you will soon learn why as you taste both at one of your guides favorite local spots.

After this traditional breakfast you will begin a walk with a gentle stroll along the coast, admiring the sweeping and spectacular sea views. Make sure you keep an eye open for dolphins and albatross. Pass by some beautiful local street-art murals and be offered plenty of time to stop to take photos.

Next up is the iconic Maggiorino Burgatello Museum where all your questions about the region's past can be answered. See displays about the complete ethnological, historical and biological collection of this area, a proud sample of the Catholic religious order. Continue walking to one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. Be introduced to some of the residents and have time to explore this peaceful hidden gem.

Begin to make your back to the city center next, either on foot or via public transport, you choose, it's your day! Along the way you can stop to visit the viewpoint on La Cruz Hill where incredible views await. See across the colorful city of Punta Arenas with the Strait of Magellan as a beautiful backdrop.

Your tour will end with even more delicious local food, this time visiting the local seafood market where quality handicrafts and mouth-watering street food go hand in hand. Your guide will take you to a special spot where you can try the best king crab empanada and a Calafate sour cocktail. Local legend suggests that if you try the Calafate sour, you will without a doubt return to Patagonia again. This South American drink hails from Peru, yet Chile has also claimed this as their national drink. As you have arrived in the deeper south regions of Patagonia, this drink takes on a reddish hue from the regional Calafate berry. The result is a drink made with pisco brandy, lemon juice, Calafate syrup or puree and egg whites.

Please Note: The Maggiorino Burgatello Museum is closed on Mondays, so if you book a Monday tour, you will visit the Regional Museum of Magallanes instead. Food tastings may vary depending on availability and the season.
