Private Lighthouses and Winery
Private Lighthouses and Winery
Following the Points East Coastal Drive, this tour brings you past stunning cliffside water views and beaches, rolling farmland and the rich textures of our Island landscape. Visit the two oldest lighthouses on Prince Edward Island located in Point Prim and Wood Islands and stop at the Rossignol Estates Winery; a double gold winner for their famous Blueberry wine at the All Canadian Wine Championships.
Point Prim Lighthouse, built in 1845, is the first and oldest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island. It is also one of only a few round brick lighthouses in Canada. The lighthouse itself is 18.5 meters tall when measured from its foundation to the weathervane.
The Wood Islands Lighthouse was founded in 1876 to aid marine traffic in the Northumberland Strait. It is the second oldest lighthouse, with an attached dwelling and tower of this style, on Prince Edward Island. The lighthouse is a well-preserved three-story tower with an adjoining 1.5 story keeper's residence.
A must stop during your day is Rossignol Estates Winery, a double gold winner for their Blueberry wine at the All Canadian Wine Championships. In 1990, John Rossignol left Ontario to build a house in Little Sands, Prince Edward Island, which is now known as the Rossignol Winery. Winemaking, to John's surprise, brought out creative energy in him. John found himself able to experiment with different methods, as well as creating new mixtures of grapes and other fruit into wonderful tasting wine. Not only was this hobby fun, but John's would also be the first commercial winery on the Island; as so began Rossignol Winery.
Relax and enjoy the picturesque landscape on the drive back to the city as your exclusive tour winds to a close.
