Private Nizwa City Highlights With Its Surroundings

Your daylong private tour of Nizwa, Bahla, and Jabina Fort will be filled with the most splendid and interesting landmarks of the area. Experience the largest outdoor souq (market) in Oman, learn the history of the land as you tour forts and fortresses, and revel in the architecture of castles, all while traveling through some of the most picturesque areas of the Hajar Mountains.

Begin your guided excursion in the morning. Your travels will take you through the breathtaking Hajar Mountains, where you will pass Fanja and Sumail. Your first stop is the old capital of the Dakhilyah Region, Nizwa. While in Nizwa you will enjoy the bustling outdoor souq that is filled with vendors who have produce, vegetables, fish, crafts, jewelry, gold, and silver for sale. Soak in the heritage and culture of the area as you walk around the open-air market. On Fridays, the locals come to town for a cattle market to sell their cows, donkeys, goats, and sheep. This is a popular event and resembles a circus, the perfect opportunity for absorbing the local flair.

After touring the souq, you will walk next door to the Nizwa Fortress, where you can enjoy the views of the magnificent mountains and ancient towns they surround. The fort represents the economic and military achievements of the early Yoruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. Amazingly, this fortress withheld some of the strongest attacks of its time which, as you will get to see, is reflected in its architecture. While in Nizwa you will get to experience local food at one of the restaurants in the town, which is a nice break before you move on to your next stop. (Please note that the cost of lunch is not included in the tour price.)

After lunch, your driver will take you to the village of Bahla. Bahla pottery is famous throughout Oman, making this a fascinating cultural experience during your visit. Bahla is also known for its Black Magic. You will get to tour the Bahla Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A short distance beyond Bahla lies the Castle of Jabreen, a popular destination for travelers. This vast three-storied structure was built during the Al Ya'ruba dynasty in the mid-17th century. It is an excellent example of Islamic architecture, with beautiful wooden inscriptions and paintings on the ceilings. Jabrin Castle was a learning center for the study of Islamic law, history, Arabic, medicine, and astrology.

This private day trip from Muscat offers a wide array of attractions for visitors who want to experience the sights and sounds of Oman's countryside.
