Private Portofino and S Margherita Highlights Tour Driver/Guide

Departing from the Port of Genoa, this day-long private vehicle tour guides you through the historic coastal villages of Portofino, Santa Margherita, and Camogli. In these villages, you'll discover the stunning art, architecture, history, and cuisine of these ancient Ligurian harbors.

Your personal driver will pick you up from the Port of Genoa in a luxurious private vehicle to start your sightseeing trek around the stunning coast of the Ligurian Sea along the Italian Riviera.

Cross the narrow passage that connects the sea to the secluded cove of Portofino. Wooden fishing boats and brightly colored tall houses ring the basin, all surrounded by groves of olive and chestnut trees above on the cliffs. Among the most ancient villages along this stretch of coast, Portofino's origins date back to the Roman Empire. Spend the rest of your morning strolling the quaint blocks and alleyways, and touring the hamlet's historic sites. Marvel at the view from Castello Brown, a 10th-century castle overlooking the sea, once used for harbor defense against invading bands of pirates. From there, venture to the most ancient part of the village and the Church of St. Martin (Chiesa Divo Martino), originally constructed during the decline of the Roman Empire. The small church is home to the relics of saint martyrs Dorotea, Cassiano, and Vincenzo. Wander over to the Church of St. George (Chiesa di San Giorgio) situated at the edge of a stunning promontory overhanging the bay. Since it was built in the 12th century, the church has been destroyed and restored four times, most recently during World War II. It is home to a small collection of Italian paintings, preserved masterpieces from centuries past.

You'll then make the scenic trip back to Santa Margherita where you will have time to purchase lunch (not included) at one of the town's many delectable trattorias. Sample some of the best of the local cuisine including the world-renowned focaccia bread, fresh pesto, and the most amazing local seafood. After lunch, meet your driver for the short trip along the breathtaking La Ruta, a roadway built along the ridge that divides the two main sides of the promontory of Portofino.

Arrive in Camogli, a quaint medieval village of fishermen and sailors. Lining the shore, you'll find centuries-old buildings painted in bright hues of pink, yellow, and green. Walkthrough the village among the fragrant wild rosemary and lavender, citrus, and olive trees, under boughs of myrtle and laurel. Take your time and stroll the cobblestone streets and lush nature paths of this sleepy village, one of Italy's best-kept secrets. After you've had the opportunity to shop, relax, and sightsee, meet your driver for the trip back to the Port of Genoa along the breathtaking coastal road.

This day-long private tour of Portofino is a must during your stop along the Ligurian Sea. Be prepared to be charmed by the astonishing scenery, historic architecture, and wonderful cuisine found only in Portofino.

Please Note: This tour is self-paced with a custom itinerary of your choosing. The tour does not include entrance fees, parking fees, tolls, or gratuities.

Though your English-speaking driver can provide commentary while driving you around, they cannot act as a guide outside of the car. The driver will be happy to make suggestions about the best places to eat throughout the day. The ferry boat service is not active from October to March and during inclement weather; therefore, as an alternative, the driver will drive up to Portofino.
