Private Reykjavik Highlights Tour

Reykjavik is known for its colorful houses and it was the home of the first permanent settlement in Iceland. Reykjavik, which means 'Smokey Bay', was named so from the Viking Ingolfur Arnarson, founder of the city. This is what he first saw upon approach to shore, steam rising from the hot springs that he soon discovered as he stepped onto land.

It may be a small city but what it lacks in size it makes up for in its quirkiness and being vastly different and uniquely interesting from most other European cities. It is also a great place for foodies as there is an enormous variety of great restaurants and cafes, as well as the local hotdog stand that is one of the most popular food stops.

Be met at the pier area by your friendly, local, and knowledgeable driver/guide who will escort you privately around the city and show you many of the highlights. Be welcomed into your comfortable transportation with a cool bottle of water and soon discover there is so much to offer and see here, making this is the perfect place for a private excursion.

Your introduction to everything Reykjavik will last for a half-day where you will see all the main sights and landmarks and be given a chance to visit some local museums if you are interested. You can start by seeing Laugavegur, the main shopping street, Hallgrimskirkja Church, Harpan Concert House, and the Sun Voyager Viking Ship for a great photo stop. Continue to see such sights as Hofdi House, Grotta Lighthouse, Perlan (The Pearl) viewing platform, the President's House, Reykjavik City Hall and The Old Harbour.

If you are interested and time allows you may wish to visit some of the museums located here. A few that you may consider are, Ice Cave Exhibition, The Whale Museum, The Aurora Reykjavik Museum, Reykjavik Maritime Museum, The Settlement Exhibition, National Museum of Iceland or the Saga Museum. All museum visits are of your own choice and do require admission fees, not included in the price of the tour.

Your guide is very flexible and will try to accommodate your wishes and needs to adapt the tour to your liking. Transportation method is a private tour in a Land Cruiser (or similar) and can comfortably seat 3 guests but accommodate up to 4 guests if needed.
