Your private tour begins when you meet your English-speaking, local and knowledgeable guide at the port and set off to the city. Upon arrival, experience first-hand the beauty of this marvelous, Eternal City.

From the toga-wearing days of Julius Caesar to the artistic boom of the Baroque, Rome is a city that catapults you through time. History seeps from every cobblestone and traversing it all is no mean feat; that is where we have created this ideal tour for you. Showcasing some of the very best Rome has to offer, this day gives you an inside view of several historical attractions.

Following the main artery of the Italian capital all the way to its heart, make your way first to the Colosseum. Once there, make your way inside and imagine the days of the gladiators while strolling around this ancient and historic landmark.

The Colosseum aside, see a host of other magnificent and well-known historic sights. At the Circus Maximus, imagining the thundering sound of horses' hooves as they raced around this ancient ground with an overly zealous Roman crowd transporting you to one of history's most significant periods.

Continue to St. Peter's in Chains Cathedral, also known by the name of Basilica Eudoxiana, after Licinia Eudoxia, wife of Emperor Valentinian III (425-455). Eudoxia brought the chains that held St. Peter while he was imprisoned in Jerusalem to Rome. However, the church is best known for the statue of Moses that Michelangelo created for the tomb of Pope Julius II.

After taking in so much history and beauty, slow down and enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant before continuing your day. Make your way to Vatican City where you will have free time to visit St. Peter's Basilica and prepare to be amazed by Michelangelo's Pieta.

As your day begins to come to an end, you will start to get the feeling you have absorbed some of this incredible city's history, culture and vast beauty.

Relax in comfort and recount your day with your tour guide who will escort you back to the port area and your ship.
