Private Wheelchair Accessible Highlights of Limon

Your journey of discovery into the Afro-Caribbean culture begins with a short city tour of Puerto Limon, an import-export powerhouse in Costa Rica, experience the cultural and ecological heritage that makes up this part of the world.

First you can make a visit to the old quarter and observe the urban renovation of this city that was once visited by Christopher Columbus in 1502. Undergoing present restoration, see quaint homes and other structures of this original old settlement that is a memorial to the city's colonial prosperity. Be enchanted with the charm of the decaying streets and fading painted homes that are an interesting contrast away from the more touristy destinations and resorts.

At Cahuita National Park you will embark on a 45-minute nature stroll filled with exotic wildlife including monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and toucans. This park spans lush rainforest and tropical beaches, and was created in 1970 to protect the country's largest coral reef. From there you will head over to one of Costa Rica's many banana plantations and learn how this delicious fruit is grown, harvested, processed, packed and exported from this second-largest banana producing country in the world.

Upon your arrival at the Tortuguero Canals you will board a covered boat for a scenic ride down jungle canals while your friendly guide explains the rainforest ecosystem. Keep your eye out for aquatic birds, bats, crocodiles and more! Throughout the tour you will have a chance to soak in beautiful coastline views and shop for souvenirs that will be a constant reminder of this special part of the world.
