Sorrento and Pompeii by Ferry

Your tour is not just a simple visit to two of the main attractions located in this region of Italy, but rather this is a true experience of what the culture is about, both past and present.

Your tour begins directly from the port of Naples where you will be greeted by your local representative. You will board the hydrofoil from Naples to reach Sorrento, the trip will take approximately 45-minutes. While on board enjoy the spectacular views of the shoreline and coast of Italy's Amalfi Coast plus view Mt. Vesuvius in a very intimate way via the sea.

Upon your arrival in Sorrento you will visit the historical center of the town. Sprinkled by lemon and olive groves, this gateway to the Amalfi Coast has an unspoiled old quarter, a lively main shopping street, all in a spectacular cliff-side setting. Sorrento's charm lies in part in its sun drenched rustic simplicity. Quaint artisan workshops packed together onto a maze of medieval alleys, with the inevitable mix of locals and tourists bustling through the center. The long shadows cast across uneven cobbled streets from overhanging balconies and terraces which almost meet overhead. Just enough space remains for washing to be strung out to dry Italian style from above, spanning the street in the Italian afternoon sun.

Enjoy free time and take a break for your lunch (at your own expense) and further exploration for shopping the narrow and typical streets.

After lunch, you will sail back to Naples where your driver will be waiting for you and to drive you to Pompeii. The archeological excavations of this ancient Roman city are like no other in the world. Pompeii is considered to be the place where the foundations were laid to be what we now know as present day social life. Pompeii met complete destruction by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and offers the best look anywhere at what life in Rome must have been like 2,000 years ago. An entire city of well-preserved ruins is yours to explore and you will view what was once a thriving commercial port of 20,000. Pompeii grew from Greek and Etruscan roots to become an important Roman city and was a booming trading center. Most streets would have been lined with stalls and jammed with customers from sunup to sundown. Chariots vied for street space with shoppers, and many streets were off-limits to chariots during shopping hours, see street signs with pictures of men carrying vases which meant for pedestrians only. Your guide will point out many interesting clues during your visit while explaining the most intriguing places of this ancient, exciting, commercial city.

Your tour will end with a return to the port in Naples and your ship.
