Swimming With the Turtles & Harrison's Cave

Barbados is an eastern Caribbean island and an independent British Commonwealth nation. Bridgetown, the capital, is a cruise-ship port with colonial buildings and Nidhe Israel, a synagogue founded in 1654. Around the island are beaches, botanical gardens, the Harrison's Cave formation, and 17th-century plantation houses like St. Nicholas Abbey. Local traditions include afternoon tea and cricket, the national sport.

Depart the port area for your Barbados tour and take a drive along the beautiful, rich west coast of the island passing many homes of famous locals and the Sandy Lane hotel. Barbados' west coast has lovely tranquil beaches that are largely hidden by the majority of the island's luxury hotels and walled estates. Known to some as the Platinum Coast, it gets this moniker sometimes from the color of the sand. In colonial times, the area was a popular holiday retreat for the upper crust of British society.

Make your way to Folkstone Marine Park and board a glass bottom boat for a ride out to meet the turtles. Folkestone Marine Park features an artificial reef, purposefully formed by the sinking of the ship Stavronikita which rests in 120ft of water less than half a mile from the shore. Jump in and have an amazing experience swimming and snorkeling with these beautiful creatures in their natural environment.

Make your way back to land and then board your transportation to be taken to Harrison's Cave. At the heart of Barbados lies one of its greatest wonders, Harrison's Cave. Located in the central uplands of the island, this breathtakingly beautiful, crystallized limestone cavern is a testament to nature's mastery. Flowing streams, deep pools of crystal clear water and towering columns characterize this living cave. Gaze in wonder at the white flow stones and in awe at the beauty of the speleothems which adorn the cave.

Travelling by tram, you will be directed by knowledgeable tour guides who will point out the various structures as well as the new formations which are continually growing in this living cave. At select points you can disembark from the tram for a closer look. There are souvenir shops located here and time will be given for you to browse before being returned to the cruise ship pier.

Take advantage of being able to enjoy both of these attractions in one day, book now for an unforgettable Barbados experience!
