Hiking to Cape Tiñoso
Hiking to Cape Tiñoso
Take a hiking route in the urban parts of the beautiful and historical city of Cartagena; a city with a privileged location and its south facing, almost unconquerable, harbor which provides memories from the earliest time of its history.
Visit a peaceful and healthy environment, the defense system of the city and one of the most spectacular historical defensive fortifications in the world. See coastal defense towers and a large number of fortifications, castles and coastal batteries.
Travel to Tinoso Cape where you will view the characteristic large promontory sculpted by a succession of ravines that extend to the sea forming steep cliffs and coves. It is within the protected natural area of the Sierra de la Muela, Tinoso Cape and Roldan. This is one of the most important ecological areas in the southeast, a natural setting remains relatively well preserved. Wildlife aside, the real wealth of the area is its landscape and vegetation of semi-arid climate.
Among the points of interest is the remarkable Castillitos Battery, it was the most powerful coastal battery built in Spain during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera and the Second Republic. Installed between 1933 and 1936 to defend entry to the Cartagena naval base. The battery only fired once in 1937 and since then its mere presence has been enough to deter any enemy. View the two impressive British cannons, the most powerful and effective weapons at the time.
Please Note: A bilingual guide will be able to assist during your visit to the battery.
