Experience the best of Kauai with a spectacular combination excursion featuring a cruise on the Wailua River followed by one of Hawaii's most celebrated Luau experiences.
The Waliua River is a long, slowly meandering river that starts at the Wai'ale'ale Crater and is fed by many tributaries on the way to the ocean. It is the only navigable river in Hawaii. For a unique Hawaiian adventure, try our cruise up river to the sacred Fern Grotto, a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns. Hawaiian musicians will serenade you at the grotto with traditional, local songs including the famous "Hawaiian Wedding Song." The superior acoustics within this natural amphitheater greatly enhance the music.
The cruise usually takes approximately 40 minutes on a long, flat-bottom riverboat. While en route, you're likely to encounter kayakers, motorboats and water skiers. Watch for photo ops featuring tropical grasslands lining the river, and the majestic cloud-covered Mt. Waialeale in the background. You will also enjoy the overlook at Opaekaa Falls-- another romantic stop that will surely secure your love of this Garden Island. Following your day tour, you will be transported to a magical location for a memorable Luau experience.
For four generations, the Smith Family Luau has treated guests to one of the most celebrated Luaus on the island of Kauai. Situated in the Wailua River Valley, the family's tropical gardens set the stage for a night to remember. The Luau honors the traditions of the Polynesian culture, with the main feature being the Pa'ina, or feast. A Kula pig is roasted in the Imu and served with a wide variety of local delicacies and desserts. Mai Tais, wine, beer, soda, water and fruit punch are also served. Following the feast, guests are treated to customary songs and chants known as "mele," the lyrical sway of the Hawaiian Hula, the colorful precision of the Tahitian drum dances and the fiery emotion of the Samoan fire knife dance.
The Smith Family is proud to continue to honor the tradition of the Luau started more than 50 years ago by their grandfather. Join them as they share the "spirit of aloha". Afterwards, you will be driven back to the pier.
Please Note: Smoking is not permitted in the State Park.

This luau was the best I have attended. The grounds and accommodations were absolutely wonderful. The ceremony removing the pig was a nice touch and the food was very good. The entertainment, both at dinner and in the amphitheater were fabulous! A must see.
We really enjoyed first the river ride and the fern grotto. And the luau was amazing!! The property, the incredible food and the show! This is a must if you are in Maui!

A fun afternoon started with a quick bus tour of some nice spots on the island. Then a trip up river to the fern grotto. Pictures don't do it justice. Then off to the Smith family compound. Grounds are beautiful and extensive. Open air dining protects from the weather but lets you enjoy both a great view and wonderful dinner. After dinner a great show. Highly recommend if you are visiting Kauai
