Valencia may be the birthplace of paella, but its thriving culinary scene offers much, much more! Sample and shop at bustling markets, small artisan shops and a famed restaurant. Pick up food and spices for purchase and bring the native flavors of Valencia back home to your kitchen.
Your small group tour begins at Mercado de Colon, a Gothic-styled covered market frequented by the locals. Sip on organic horchata, a traditional summer drink that is creamy and nutty. From there you will head to Mercado Central, the largest market in Europe with more than 400 vendors. Meander past stalls overflowing with fresh produce and arrive at the spice section where you will learn about the spices used to make authentic paella. Stop in the meat aisle to discover the difference between jamon iberico and serrano while you enjoy a jamon tasting.
From there you will head to a quaint, artisan chocolate shop where handcrafted bombones, Cubanitos and truffles await you. Once you've had your fill of chocolates you will stop to sample a locally produced olive oil. Your tour concludes with a tasting at one of the oldest and most popular restaurants in the area. Enter the 200 year old building and dine on mouthwatering tapas and wine, with the option of staying for a relaxing lunch.
