Nature Hike in Girdwood

The Winner Creek Trail, part of the Historic Iditarod Trail, in the lush Rainforest of Girdwood, is a wonderful hike and a memorable experience for everyone. A guided hike is different from hiking the trail on your own; our naturalist guides are knowledgeable, funny, and will be sure to tell you at least three things you didn't know!

After meeting the local representative at the Alyeska Resort, you will set out along the trail in groups no larger than 10 per guide. Passing through North America's Northern-most temperate coastal rainforest, The Winner Creek trail has gentle, graded, maintained sections with boardwalks, as well as plenty of rugged, rooty sections of trail.

In the company of a naturalist, you will get to nibble on edible leaves, flowers, and berries. Your guide will explain traditional and contemporary herb lore, identify bird song and animal behaviors, and tell stories about Native and Alaskan history. When blueberry season is in full swing, the trail is blooming with scrumptious delights sure to please anyone. You may even see a moose! This 5 mile round trip hike takes about 3 hours.

Please Note: Participants must arrive prepared. Guests must dress in warm synthetic clothes in multiple layers, the top layer being waterproof. Cotton clothes, including blue jeans, are not recommended. Long synthetic pants, a fleece jacket or thin mid layer, long wool socks, and sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes are required. Each guest should bring a backpack, a warm hat, light weight gloves, and sunglasses. Cameras and binoculars are strongly recommended.

Trekking poles, a snack, bottled water, and bear protection will be provided. The tour operates in all weather conditions, at the discretion of the guide.
