Village of Njegusi

Our driver took a small group of us about 1 hours drive into the mountain that bordered the town near the port. After taking in beautiful views and a couple of photo stops, we arrived at a small home in Njegusi. The owner showed us how he smoked hams to make prosciutto. We then were treated to a delicious platter of prosciutto , cheese, bread, sausages and wine. We tasted his home made brandy as well. It was a A nice experience to spend time with a local family and enjoy the fruits of their labor. The excursion would have been enhanced by hearing more information about the area during our drive.

Our excursion to the Village of Njegusi was truly one of the highlights of our trip! Our small passenger van began the trip to the village by traversing up a 2500 foot mountain via 25 switchback hairpin turns! The sights below as we climbed the mountain were breathtaking. What made our trip so special is that we actually visited the home of a family in Njegusi who have produced their own prosciutto, cheese, wine, and vodka for many years! The father and son took us through the steps of aging the prosciutto and we were able to view the smokehouse and actually see the process and the prosciutto! We then had a small sampling of all of their products as they explained and shared their family history. We could not leave without purchasing some special treats to take back home! This was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend this tour!

Intimate tour of the amazingly best views in Montenegro and the village of a local pork smoker that produces the best prosciutto in the region. He provided a generous meat, cheese and bread tray as well as homemade fruit wine (delicious) and rakia (similar to moonshine). Igor was a very knowledgeable, personable and relaxed tour guide and made our experience extremely pleasant. I would highly recommend this tour to visitors.
