Presidio River Adventure
Fun experience and outstanding food

Excellent outing, turned out we had our own private guide. Boarded the van outside of port entry and there were 8 of us total. We all went to the same place about 45 min away. Once we arrived there were several options people had signed up to do. We were the only ones doing the river kayaking. Another 10 min ride to the put-in area where we enjoyed an hour on the gentle river with some minor rapids and nice scenery. When we reached the end of our float, our driver was waiting to take us back to the base. Lunch was provided. One of the best Mexican food experiences ever. The freshest food, great flavor, and the flaming queso was the best. I still think back to that lunch served family style with the folks in our van, plus others that arrived separately. After lunch there was time to explore the little “town” including a tequila factory. Then back onto the van for the trip back. We made it back in plenty of time to wander around the shops outside the port before our ship’s departure.

Great exercise and wonderful food

Kayaking on the Presidio river was great exercise, and the wildlife was outstanding. There were flocks of herons all along the river, and cows were sunning on the banks. Our tour guide found a calm spot in the river to take pictures, and our time on the water lasted about an hour. After the river tour, we were taken to Restaurante Maria Chabela where we enjoyed a delicious Mexican lunch. They had a tequila factory near the restaurant where we did a tequila tasting and bought a bottle to take home. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
Fantastic off the beaten path adventure

We really enjoyed this excursion in Mazatlan! There were 4 in our group and no one else, so we ended up with a private tour. The river is pretty far from town up in the mountains, but it was worth the long drive, and we didn't see any other kayakers. Definitely a great opportunity to get away from the crowds on the ship. After kayaking, we ate a phenomenal lunch with fresh salsa, guac, flaming cheese, and some of the best tacos and burritos we've had. We also had the chance to taste a few tequilas at the distillery before being brought back to the ship. A wonderful day and so much better than any ship excursion!

We really enjoyed the beautiful, peaceful Presidio River. Our kayak guide was great and very patient with me, as it was my first solo kayak trip. We saw an eagle and some amazing rock formations. There were a few small rapids which were fun to negotiate. The authentic Mexican lunch (beef burritos, flaming cheese dip, guacamole, pico de gallo (which we ground ourselves) was fantastic and we enjoyed being in the small village. We had a small group in the van (7 of us). The 2 of us were the only ones kayaking, so we ended up with a private guide. Everything was on time, too.
