A Taste of Belize and Tale of Two Cities

Spend the day immersed in the past and present culture of Belize with this 4.5-hour small group tour. The excitement begins as your guide picks you up at port for a scenic ride into Belize City with its colonial architecture and city highlights.

Continue to the Northern Highway, passing by charming Creole villages and small farms until you reach Altun Ha, a Mayan ceremonial center that was a major trade site on the Meso-American route for centuries. While here, you will witness "A Tale of Two Cities" while you learn all things Mayan.

Circle back to the colonial city of Belize and stop at a local restaurant to sample dishes from the 6 ethnic groups in Belize. Here you will be treated to a true taste of Belizean cuisine, including Conch Ceviche (Belize), Bean Empanadas (Maya), Escabeche or Chilmole (Mestizo), Curried Pork or Chicken with white rice (East Indian), Sere (Garifuna), and the national dish: Rice and Beans with Stewed Chicken (Creole). Cap off your gastronomic experience with an array of delicious local wines, including Cashew, Sorrel, Sour Sop, Pineapple, Nonie, and Blackberry wines.

From there you will make your way back to port, passing by the famous1812 British Anglican cathedral, Government House, Magistrate and Supreme Court Buildings.

WOW, what a great day we had on this excursion. We we were not prepared for the wonderful time we had in Belize. I recommend this excursion to anyone that wants to see Belize and here about the island, and enjoy the food. Will do this again, if we come back.

The sites were wonderful and the food was great but the true highlight of the trip were the guides. Carlos and Gilbert made us feel welcome, were extremely informative and treated us like royalty. Just be sure you come equipped with jokes. LOL.

If you are looking for a beach to relax and swim, this is not for you. But if you want to know a little about Belize and the local food, this is for you. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. We got to see the city, the ruins, and tasted the local food. It was an enjoyable excursion.

We loved this excursion! Ruins were fascinating and well worth seeing. The small size of the group made it easy to hear and helped us enjoy the entire area. The guide and the driver were both knowledgeable and personable. The food was so fun and delicious. The server made it super interesting. This tour felt personal and authentic. Probably our favorite for this cruise.

Excellent and Authentic!

This was by far our favorite excursion on our entire 7-day cruise. Our guide and driver were friendly and knowledgeable, and gave us a great history of Belize on the way to Altun Ha. The ruins were great - we were able to climb some of them - and our guide was a wealth of information about the ruins, Mayan culture, and the local flora and fauna. The highlight of the excursion was the meal at the end. The food was authentic (everyone else in the restaurant was a local) and absolutely delicious. I would recommend this excursion to anyone. We definitely plan on experiencing it again when we return to Belize.

Favorite excursion on Cruise
June 30, 2019
This was my favorite excursion we took on our cruise. Freddy and Dennis were great. They knew so much about the local area and the Mayan ruins. Then on top of all of that we had some of the best food I had ever tasted brought to us for the food tasting. Our group left stuffed and satisfied.
