Hawke's Bay Wines, Beer and Napier Art Deco

On this tour you will visit Mission Estate, the oldest winery in New Zealand, and hear the story that commenced in Lyon, France. You will also visit an Ale House to sample beers and ciders, and enjoy views of the Art Deco city.

While at the Mission Estate winery, you will have time to explore the grounds and admire the majestic building - and then you will have the opportunity to taste the wine!

Your tour continues to the third oldest winery in New Zealand for another wine tasting opportunity inside a fantastic cellar setting. You will learn about the world famous "Gimblett Gravels" and see first-hand why the Gravels are considered and treated as an appellation.

Next, you will return to the historic Port area of Napier, Ahuriri to visit an Ale House. Here you will be able to relax and soak up the port atmosphere while enjoying your choice of 3 drinks from their range of beers and cider (tea or coffee are also available).

Finally, discover the beauty of this Art Deco city by enjoying a drive through a 1930's Art Deco Housing Estate. You will see and learn how the city was destroyed and why it was rebuilt in the Art Deco style of the 1920's and 1930's. You will also see the National Tobacco Building, the best example of Art Deco in the country. Experience all the period highlights on this Art Deco tour.

At the conclusion of the tour, you will have the option to do some shopping or just walk the main streets in the central city with your camera before returning to your shuttle. You will also receive a small souvenir to remember your time spent in Napier.

Our host Dennis was a great host to the 4 of us in his mini-van. Had a small group personal tasting at 2 wineries and then stopped at Speights for some beer tasting. Had 6 generous tastes, couldn't finish all of mine. Toured the downtown area to see the art deco. This was a great, small group tour by a local who knew some spots the big tours wouldn't go to. Highly recommend this tour!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour to the Mission Winery and also the Church Rd. Winery. Driver/tour operator was excellent. We had a small group which fit comfortably in the minivan, no problem meeting the driver as per instructions. Also the drive through the residential and downtown area featuring all the art deco was excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour to my friends and clients.

It was very chaotic when dropped off by the ship’s shuttle bus and we were directed to another bus. I say this because we were put onto the wrong tour BUT we thoroughly enjoyed THIS tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and a skilled driver considering the narrow roads. I am limited in my mobility and was quite ok seeing the sites.

Loved the smaller van and the tours of the wineries were excellent. Very good tour guide and driver. She had a true Kiwi accent.
